The media in India has been a strange beast — most of the innovation and ‘quality’ has historically come from English newspapers, websites and TV networks, whereas most Indians speak anything else but English. There are historical and structural reasons for this skew, but the picture is changing rapidly.
What this means is that the biggest opportunity for impact comes from programming in the other 21 official languages.
Enter Smita Sharma. The senior journalist and anchor has built a career with journalistic rigour and courage, and when she agreed to do the video series in Hindi for us, we were thrilled.
