Dear reader,
This is Issue No. #21 of Media Buddhi.
In the last few months, I’ve covered a spectrum of topics that are all related to keeping ourselves more sane and safe in a world of information overload/pollution.
I’ve written about the need to first identify and name the core problem, about a god who is an oddly perfect metaphor for our times, and on a framework for understanding the news media. I’ve described the limits of TV news and newspapers that are online. Taught lateral reading and media literacy for kids. Written about the need for an updated political language. The urgency of reclaiming the notion of an objective truth. And why we should understand precisely how our own minds divide us.
It feels like I’ve barely begun. There’s an exciting list of topics to come and no shortage of examples. At present, I’m working on articles related to big tech, trolls, jokes, WhatsApp, and more.
But at BOOM, we have other plans as well, including a video series that I’ve taken to referring in my head as The Media Buddhi Show. A new series on the main website. More training sessions related to media literacy, both online and offline.
We’re designing these new projects with care. Especially because it would be kind of hilarious if we created more content that is just noise while at the same time preaching about information overload.
This is where you come in. Already this newsletter has benefitted tremendously from your ongoing feedback. This is deeply appreciated. We believe that an even deeper engagement with you will make Media Buddhi better. In the coming weeks, we will continue to think about how to do that.
As always, we appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks for reading.
