I’ve seen this happen to a couple of local papers here in Vermont: some long-running publications have shut down, and a couple of others temporarily went on hiatus or furloughed people for a while.
I made it a point to subscribe to my daily paper (The Times Argus) and kept supporting my local NPR affiliate, Vermont Public Radio. It’s definitely something I’ve talked up to friends in the region.
I think it's going to boil down to that here in India in the near future. Till the pandemic struck, newspapers continued to be profitable. The one thing I would like the Indian media to take away from what's currently taking place in the US now is the increasing focus on developing local news outlets with innovative business models.
